E-invoicing at German federal level and federal state level
Since 27 November 2020, with just a few exceptions, suppliers to the German federal administration have been required to send their invoices electronically. Information on e-invoicing at federal level is available here.
By contrast, Germany’s federal states are responsible for their own e-invoicing measures. This means that you, as a supplier, may have to deal with varying requirements when it comes to sending e-invoices. These requirements are determined by the laws of the federal state(s) in question.
This page provides you with initial information on e-invoicing in Germany’s federal states.
Please note:
The Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community is responsible for e-invoicing at federal level, but not at federal state level. The information listed here has been provided in response to high demand from invoice issuers. However, we cannot guarantee that the information relating to the various federal states is complete, up-to-date or correct.
E-invoicing in Germany’s federal states
Click on the plus sign next to the name of any federal state to reveal links and contacts that can provide you with initial information on e-invoicing in the federal state in question. Further information is provided here (German only) by the Coordination Office for IT Standards (KoSIT). If you are uncertain about the legal situation or about the buyer reference (Leitweg-ID), we recommend that you make direct contact with your customer in the relevant federal state administration.
